As has been visibly underway for the past few years, the implementation of a policy of gradually increasing the statutory minimum gross wage will, according to government guidelines, have positive effects on economic growth by stimulating employment, increasing the purchasing power of employees and reducing moonlighting.
Changes expected 2020:
An increase in the guaranteed minimum gross base salary to 2,262 lei monthly starting Jan. 1, 2020, which represents an 8.7 percent increase from December 2019, is being discussed and proposed.
In 2019 the hourly wage was 12.43 lei/hour for a full-time work schedule of 167,333 hours and in 2020 the hourly wage is 13.518 lei/hour for a full-time work schedule of 167,333 hours.
As of January 1, 2020, for personnel classified for positions for which higher education is provided, with a working age of at least one year in the higher education sector, the minimum gross base salary by law guaranteed in payment is set at 2,620 lei per month, which represents an increase of 11.5 percent compared to December 2019.
In 2019 the hourly wage is 14,044 lei/hour for a full time work schedule of 167,333 hours and in 2020 the hourly wage is 15,657 lei/hour for a full time work schedule of 167,333 hours.
We remind again that these provisions do not apply at present because they are at the stage of the draft Decree Law to be enacted in the coming months.
